”The Fisherman and His Wife” by the Brothers Grimm despite its 200 years old history, remains very accurate in our times. What’s more, it can even be read in new ways. Simple story of a marriage – the fisherman and his greedy wife, shows really important topic of happiness.
Modern adaptation by Anna Wieczorek tells the story of a young fisherman, who thanks to the golden fish finds out what really is a true happiness.
At first the only thing that the main protagonist wants, is to make his wife happy, however three wishes given to him by the fish make him aware that he lost his own joy. Mark’s true desire is to live in peace with the nature and follow his heart. The story about newlyweds points out dangers of craving for power, greed and being focused only on material things.
The play’s action is set mostly in the depths, and our heroes go through many funny adventures coming across: Seahorse, Salmon, Octopus and other sea creatures. The
The play points out important topic connected with water pollution and its effects, what is depicted with the use of puppets and stage design (with recycled materials).
